Back 40 Brewery

Back 40 Beer Company is Birmingham’s newest brewery, and it’s quickly become one of our favorites! It’s located by Sloss Furnaces and has cool views of Sloss and of the trains that go by. Back 40 has a delicious variety of beers, my favorite being their Truck Stop Honey Brown Ale. The patio is large and has benches, tables, and rocking chairs. There is a garden area where you can play table tennis or corn hole. There is plenty of space to spread out and just chill. Inside, there are plenty of tables as well as TVs, so you can always catch your game on the weekend.

Of course, one of the best aspects of Back 40 is the fact that we can bring Kermit. Dogs are allowed at the brewery, but must remain outside and on leash. Wednesdays are Woof Wednesdays and there is a special perk for dogs. One week they passed out homemade dog treats, another week was “dog beer” (beef broth) night. A photographer snaps pictures of the pups to feature them inside on the “Woof Wall.” The main reason dogs aren’t allowed inside is because, unlike many other breweries in town, they make and serve their own food. Back 40 serves up some fancy bar food. Among the menu are wings, pizzas, kale salad, and even a kids’ menu. In the mornings they serve beermosas and brunch.

Back 40 has already hosted some fun events this year, like the Trick or Trot, Backtoberfest, and several live music shows. They have trivia on Thursday nights, and yoga on Wednesdays (though yoga is now on hold until the spring when it warms up again).

We love that Back 40 is super dog friendly and has such a cool, fun environment. It’s especially been nice in the fall when the weather is cooler. Kermit loves to roll in the grass and he totally eats up all the attention he gets from the staff. Definitely check out Back 40 this fall-it won’t disappoint!

  1. Thank you for the post, just a heads up, Brunch will be coming, but this past Saturday was a one off due to opening at 7am for the Trick or Trot run. We are hoping to roll out a brunch on Saturdays and Sundays in the near future.
