Since Alabama summers are hot, smoothies have been my go-to for an easy breakfast or mid morning snack. I know it’s October, but it’s hitting 80 today! A little gremlin likes to hang around the kitchen while I’m cooking, hoping for some extra snacks, so I decided to make a Kermit-friendly smoothie.
Bananas are a good treat for a dog, they have potassium, fiber, and other vitamins that dogs need. They also have sugar so serve in moderation. Blueberries have antioxidants and vitamins that are great for your dog. Dogs can also eat other berries like strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries. We just give them to Kermit as a treat, or top his food off with them.
Throw it in a blender and serve some for you and your furry friend!
**Some dogs can tolerate regular milk but many have problems digesting dairy. If you serve it in moderation, it’s probably fine, but something to keep in mind and know your dog. Since I drink almond milk, that’s what Kermit gets in his smoothies. However, make sure you check the ingredients in almond milk. Try to stay away from flavored or sweetened almond milks since they can sometimes be sweetened with xylitol which is dangerously poisonous for dogs. Dogs can also be allergic to soy so I’d stay away from soy milk as well. Again, I only give Kermit a small portion and don’t serve this as a full meal. But he loves it!
