With October in full swing comes one of our favorite events – Barktoberfest! Barktoberfest is an event at Cahaba Brewery to help raise money for Hand in Paw, a nonprofit organization that uses volunteers and therapy dogs to help people in hospitals, schools, nursing homes, etc.
Tickets to Barktoberfest are $20 and with that you get a beer, entry into the pet costume contest, entry into the stein hoist contest, and more. There will be a doggie caricature artist, a raffle, doggie kissing booth, and food trucks.
We went last year and it was a blast. Kermit entered the costume contest as a jack-o-lantern-he ended up losing to a pack of dogs dressed as Space Jam players, but he had fun. Fetch Truck, Birmingham’s delicious dog treat truck was there serving up Halloween cookies and cupcakes. There was a photographer there taking pictures of people and their dogs; it was nice to have some professional grade pictures of me and Kerm.
The humans enjoyed Cahaba beer, featuring their Oktoberfest brew as well as a Cherry Hibiscus Sour. It’s a tart beer with a pretty pink color and proceeds from the are donated to Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Barktoberfest really is fun for the whole family and we can’t wait to take Kermit again this year!
