I somehow stumbled upon Lisa Leonard jewelry through an Instagram ad. (Or maybe I saw it somewhere else and then the ad started appearing? Instagram and Facebook know everythinggggg.) Lisa Leonard’s slogan is “jewelry with meaning.” Lots of jewelry is just for fun, but the jewelry that is really special, for me, has meaning. She makes necklaces, bracelets, and rings. These rings I just love.
You can customize many of her pieces, but I’m going to mainly talk about the rings here. My absolute favorite are the stacking name rings. They are available in different metals: sterling silver, gold, rose gold, and white gold. I have them in sterling silver. You can engrave the rings with whatever you want. On my left hand, I have my beautiful engagement and wedding rings to represent love, my marriage, and my husband. I wanted something special to also represent Kermit.
Kermit came into our lives when I really needed him and he’s brightened our lives every day since. I moved to Birmingham on June 29, 2015. On July 2, we went to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society to “just look” at dogs. We saw a small, brown puppy named Bartholomew staring at us through the glass in his kennel. He was only 10 weeks old and had a slight skin condition-he was missing most of his hair on his right side. Not too much was known about his past except that he was probably born in mid-April to a stray. He was brought to the GBHS in late June and had been up for adoption for about two weeks. He was so playful and sweet. We knew he was meant to be in our family, so we took him home that day. We were so not prepared; (Alert: what not to do!) we had to stop at the pet store on the way home to get him a crate, bed, food, and toys.
Kermit is such a character! He loves food and waits patiently for handouts (mainly tomatoes and peppers) while we cook dinner. Kermit’s daycare has described him as “sensitive” (accurate) but Kermit loves going out with us, so we take him everywhere we can. I thought all dogs loved to cuddle but Kermit has never been one to snuggle close, so those moments when he lays his head on me in bed are precious.
Some people thought we were crazy to adopt a dog so soon after I moved to to a new city, but having Kermit has helped me tremendously. My husband is from the area, but Birmingham was all brand new to me. Kermit has helped me get out of the house on walks and helped me meet new people (and their dogs). I’ve met some amazing people through Kermit who are now good friends. He has definitely changed my life for the better, and he has officially turned me into a crazy dog lady.
I chose to get two stackable rings to represent Kermit. One ring has his name on it, and the other has the date we adopted him. These rings are beautiful and durable. They look great on their own, but I also love the stacked look. I love that wherever I go I can carry Kermit with me-he’s so much more than “just a dog” to us. He has brought so much love into our lives and made us a family.
We recently welcomed our first (human) baby into our family. I ordered another ring to wear alongside Kermit’s. They look beautiful together and I just love looking down and seeing both of their names together.
